This is our action packed dueling episode! Egil suits up for battle against a pale-skinned Swedish berserker hell bent on destroying the family of Arinbjorn’s sister. Then he tackles Atli the Short, whose magical invulnerability to weapons forces Egil to get creative in battle. And if the duels weren’t enough, Egil and Arinbjorn go on a series of Viking raids in Saxony and Frisia.

Cooking fires on a Viking ship: Although like you I cannot remember a Saga reference to this practice I have heard speculation that such a fire might be placed on top of the ballast.
A Viking ship like a Knörr carried over a ton of ballast, usually just heaped rocks and underneath them was the ever present bilge-water which had to be scooped out on a daily basis (or even more). The fire retardant qualities of wet timbers and stone would make it an excellent place for a small cooking fire, although in heavy weather or excessive rain it would be impossible.
